Year 8 Charity Walk for Cherry Trees | News

As part of the Year 8’s Programme of Enrichment, the pupils took part in a charity walk from Guildford to Box Hill summit, raising over £1,000.

The walk covered 19km of the North Downs Way and is no mean feat – as the pupils were also required to carry their lunch, water, and spare clothing for the duration.

The pupils set off with high spirits and displayed great determination throughout the day, especially as the sun rose high and the temperature increased. Pupils had to battle their allergies, senses of direction, and many an angry insect. Luckily, Mr Cooper was able to resupply the pupils with water and ice lollies along the way.
 

Head of Upper School, Ben Baldwin, said:

"I couldn’t be prouder of the Year 8 pupils – they approached the challenge with determination, good humour and a real sense of purpose. It was a brilliant example of teamwork, resilience and community spirit, all in support of a truly deserving cause."

The final ascent on Box Hill was a fantastic way to finish and gave the Year 8 pupils a tangible sense of achievement at having completed the walk for such a worthwhile cause. Cherry Trees helps to keep families together by providing home-from-home care for children with complex disabilities and a meaningful break for their families. We are proud to share that the pupils raised over £1,000 in support of this incredible charity.
